One of the biggest favors you can do for yourself when it comes to expanding your reach online is to gain the right type of followers.
So many entrepreneurs are working their tails off to build an audience, but aren’t thinking about who makes up their following.
Sure you may gain thousands of followers, but I need you to ask yourself, “ Are these followers my ideal client?
If the answer is no, it’s time to re-evaluate.
Why? Because it is only an audience made up of relevant followers that will actually yield conversions.
And by conversions I mean clients, customers, readers, listeners, and consumers – the list goes on. Whatever you are hoping each follower converts to, it is more to your advantage to gain 500 relevant followers than 5,000 fluffy numbers who aren’t interested in what you offer.
It’s even better to have both a large and right kind of audience! So how do you get both?
After years of helping hundreds of clients and students expand their reach online, I always come back to three main keys when coaching clients to find their ideal audience.
1. Develop Your Customer Avatar
Gaining the right kind of client starts with knowing who and where they are. There are a plethora of free worksheets available to do this, and I have several already pinned and for you to download on my Best Tools to Build Your Biz Board on Pinterest!
I’ve done the work of finding great guides for you, now take the time to map it out and determine your ideal customer!
These are the types of questions you need to be asking yourself as you grow and engage with your audience.
2. Get Visible
Girl, you have to show up! Seriously, consistency and visibility are key.
Are you visible on your Instagram and talking to your email list? Maybe you have an email list that you’re not even touching. Y’all, this is crucial. I know we live in an era that tells us to do all the things. I’m not telling you to do everything. But pick a few spaces, and show up.
Showing up to the people who already know who you are, I will argue is more important than gaining a larger audience. Why? Because when you show up to people who have already invited you into their lives, you already have a leg up in converting them to a client or a customer versus someone who doesn’t know you. Face it, your customers are going about their daily lives; but if you’re regularly in their peripherals, showing up consistently, they’re going to notice!
3. Be consistent
I go through seasons where I’m face-palming because I’ve totally dropped the ball in this area.
Life and other tasks in my business have gotten in the way. But get back on your horse and start over.
It’s easy to fall into the trap of believing that if you don’t post every day, it won’t matter. You don’t talk to your email list or the hub of clients you already have because they’ve already used you and won’t again. NO!
Pop back in, nudge them gently to see if they’re looking to work together again because you have a special deal for the season! Be creative with ways to pop into your client’s lives and their feed; they might not even think about what they need until it’s right there in front of them.
I hit on this so hard because I’ve not only seen this work in my own business, but I was an example of this strategy with a group program I signed up for!
I’d been thinking for months that I wanted to get involved in a program or mastermind this year. I’d heard of Todd Herman’s 90-day year, and it was on my radar but in reality thought, “I’ll join…sometime.”
Then, Amber Mcqueue popped into my email box. I hadn’t met or come across her on the internet before, but she was there. The way she spoke in her emails, her videos promoting her group program, really spoke to me.
Her personality, how she was staying visible and showing up in my feed to say hello, the language she used totally jived with me because I was her ideal person (ding ding ding!). And guess what, I signed up for hers over Todd Herman, and I never looked back! She was visible, and she was consistent, and she popped into my peripherals at just the right time.
I hope that this helps you get started in honing in on your target audience. These strategies work, and I promise you they’re worth it.
Because we’re each just one in a wide spectrum of businesses, the strategies needed can vary for the brick and mortar versus the health and fitness coach. If you’re finding yourself stuck and needing more one-on-one attention, this is what I LOVE to do.
I’d be honored to come alongside you in this process. Shoot me an email if this describes you, and you’re ready to take your audience engagement to the next level in your business but just need a little help honing in on that ideal client and finding where they’re hanging out. Let’s build you that six-figure business and start living a life of freedom.
