Sarah Perkins is the Co-Founder and CEO of DesignerShare. Sarah grew up loving fashion but started a career as a lifestyle writer and editor after college. She was approached by a family friend looking to start a business in the share economy, and together they founded DesignerShare – a peer-to-peer clothing rental marketplace for women. Sarah found herself at a crossroads between her career as an editor and her life as an entrepreneur. She enjoyed her day job but ultimately decided to pursue DesignerShare full-time.
Our favorite takeaways from Sarah:
How past learning experiences have prepared her to start this business.
The need for women to each other up instead of tearing each other down.
The idea of failing forward – the fantasy of the entrepreneurial journey vs the reality of a start-up.
Why we have to stay in our own lane.
Fundraising for women led and women focused endeavors.
“Confidence is quiet.” Managing the dance of believing in yourself and not trying to overly prove yourself.
Stop comparing and battling. Learn and listen. As women, we need to get out of the clique mentality and into the tribe and community mentality. The practiced discipline of celebrating others’ success.
